Black Bean Basil Tofu

This is Experiment #1 for a Black Bean Basil Tofu recipe. It was pretty good for round 1 of the experiment. The chinese basil (which is spicier, with strong licorice tones) very much complimented the black bean sauce. Next time I won't use tofu gluten. I didn't like the texture...but I'm thinking maybe I don't know how to cook with gluten yet. Sweet potatoes with the multi-grain rice and the black bean sauce is an amazing combo. I highly recommend it.

Filipino Adobo

There are variations and touches each person puts to the dish, coconut milk, braising the meat before adding it to the sauce, etc.

...I'm sleepy...the adobo is getting to me...

"Trolls"

I have yet to come up with a proper name for these things, which is some variation on lumpia. I make it with ground turkey, so Angel calls 'em Trolls. It isn't the most appetizing name, but it's very endearing if one says it with glee, "TROLLS!!"

Ingredients: Ground turkey, onion, cilantro, five spice powder, salt and one egg.

The above ingredients are mixed and then wrapped in lumpia wrapper (aka menlo dough, spring roll wrappers).

This was a celebratory meal and the first one eaten on our new picnic table (with a lovely red and white picnic table cloth). I'm still trying to find astroturf....where can I get astroturf?!

Ba-con Wrapped Hot Dogs

It's been too long. Jordan and I decided to bring downtown L.A. into our kitchen. It went like this:

via Gchat

me: what're you making for dinner tonight
Jordan: what would you like me to make
me: a yummy salad

and eventually the conversation lead to the hot dogs from Downtown LA that are every drunk person's friend at 2:01 a.m.

Pulled pork sandwich.

Rachel and Jordan were skeptical, but Jack's gift to me was used last Thursday. There were 4 very happy tummies.
